“ Blogging Basics for Writers

Starts this Saturday, Oct. 10.  Seats still available.

How easy is it to blog? As easy as creating a blog and updating it on a regular basis. How easy is it to market your name, increase readership and maybe, just maybe, make money blogging? Well… that takes a little more time and effort. Whether you’re deciding what kind of blog to maintain (thematic or personal) or already have a blog that you would like to polish for increased readership, this course will help you learn how to write for and market to an online audience. Classes alternate weekly between real-time and online classroom. Home internet access is required.

This workshop. led by me, begins at 3 p.m. this Saturday, October 10, and continues for six week. Each session is one hour.

The session cost: $155

About me

I create, maintain and market Web sites. I research online media and social networks to figure out how the Web can be useful to writers, journalists and marketers. I also gather, write, photograph and record information for online consumption.

I am employed as an online producer for HamptonRoads.com and PilotOnline, where I have recruited and managed more than 100 bloggers over a three year period; created and managed a social networking strategy; seeded and administered a social network for local groups and organizations; created portals for special occasions and themes; and produced content for various portals on the site.

As of the moment, my focus is entertainment at HamptonRoads.com. I maintain the entertainment, music, style and food portals. I post to a pop culture blog and a local music blog daily. I use social networking to share information and engage our audience around our content.

You can find me all over the Web. I have personal profiles on Facebook, Flickr, Jaiku, MySpace, StumbleUpon, Technorati, Twitter and YouTube. My professional profiles can be found on LinkedIn and Poynter.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to email me, deb@debmarkham.com.
